Humans would always seek the new, the exotic, quickest way. The Dverg, who in the pre –war days were also great pursuers of knowledge and the science of building and making were the closest of the elders to the younger race. They could understand the needs that drove them to build ships and see what lay across the sea or to create devices that enabled sight of the stars in the chance a god or angel could be seen. It was due to this closeness that the two races formed the Great Company. But neither race would foresee the evil that would grow from such an endeavour, its roots embedded in the noble ideals of progress and unity.

During the war that came after Humans retreated to the cities for safety, the countryside had become too dangerous as vengeful elder races fought against the church raised armies and company battalions.
For the most part they felt initially wronged by the elders and they flocked to join up to fight. As the war dragged on though and the war effort grew ever hungrier and the 1st press gangs forced folk into uniform, the mutterings began.
Many humans pre-war had had excellent relationships with the other races both as friends and trade partners. They were mortified at the thought of fighting their close friends and in some cases relations, for prior to the war it had not been unheard of that different races would marry. The anger grew and the church had to deal with sedition and demagogues on their own doorstep. It has been utterly denied by the church but units of the inquisition (it has been rumoured0 took part in mass executions of war demonstrators and friends of the elders. The war took its toll on the human race.
Even though humans are the most versatile of the races, able to bend with any wind as it were, they still are marked by its effects. They realise that it was their race’s greed that was one of the main causes of the war and those whom live within the wild feel guilty to lesser or greater degrees for this. Thus they are often first to volunteer to defend the holds and villages against all comers when required.
Most humans still live within the once grand cities. These folk though, are nothing like the pragmatic wilds dwellers. They are ruled with an iron grip and preach a doctrine of humility and reverence to the departed gods. The multitudes of common folk are repressed by the clergy with its fixation on redemption and calling back of the departed deities. It is these humans who bring death and destruction still to the Wilds. The crusades and purging are rife, touching almost everyone.
A human character will need to think of the above. They do well in all roles and are seen in all professions. Many are haunted by their races crimes but some may think that the world needed to be rid of the other races etc. It’s up to you. There are humans living in most places in the world, be they hard-line church fanatics or members of northern tribes or tanned merchants from the warm south, feel free to submit a background etc to the Refs.
There are no makeup or costume requirements for human characters bar those you enforce yourself.
